Siddhivinayak Temple Mumbai - Significance & Darshan

The temple is located in Prabhadevi, Mumbai, Maharashtra. It was originally built in 1801 by Laxman Vithu Patil and Deubai Patil, a small but deeply faith-filled shrine. Over the decades its fame grew enormously, and the modest temple was rebuilt into the grand multi-storey structure seen today. It is now one of the richest and most visited temples in India, drawing celebrities, leaders and millions of ordinary devotees who come to seek the lord's blessings.

Devotees believe Siddhivinayak is a jagrut (awakened, ever-responsive) deity who fulfils heartfelt wishes, especially for new beginnings, careers, marriages and removal of obstacles. Tuesday (Mangalvar) is his most sacred day, when crowds swell and the queues can stretch for hours. The inner sanctum's wooden doors carry images of the ashtavinayak (the eight Ganesha forms), and the temple's golden dome and warm aarti atmosphere leave a deep impression on every visitor.

The temple generally opens early, around 5:30 am with Kakad aarti, and stays open until about 9:30 to 10 pm, with longer hours on Tuesdays and festivals.

Tips: 1. Avoid Tuesdays and Ganesh Chaturthi if you want a shorter wait. 2. Early mornings on weekdays are the calmest for darshan. 3. Use the official online darshan or aarti booking when available. 4. Cloakrooms are provided, as phones and bags are restricted inside. 5. Offer modaks, laddoos or red flowers, which are dear to Ganesha.

The grandest celebration is Ganesh Chaturthi (Vinayaka Chaturthi), when Mumbai overflows with devotion and the temple sees enormous crowds. Angarki Chaturthi (a Tuesday Sankashti Chaturthi) and every Sankashti and Vinayaki Chaturthi are specially observed with fasting and darshan. Magh Ganesh Jayanti and the daily aartis, especially the morning Kakad and night Shej aarti, draw steady streams of devotees throughout the year.
