Lakshmi Puja at Home Step by Step (घर पर लक्ष्मी पूजा कैसे करें)

लक्ष्मी पूजा के लिए:

• लक्ष्मी-गणेश की मूर्ति/photo
• कलश (पानी भरा)
• लाल कपड़ा (चौकी पर बिछाने के लिए)
• फूल (कमल, गुलाब, गेंदा)
• हल्दी, कुमकुम, चंदन
• अक्षत (चावल)
• धूप/अगरबत्ती
• घी का दीपक
• मिठाई (प्रसाद)
• सुपारी, इलायची, लौंग
• सिक्के (coins – लक्ष्मी का प्रतीक)

Step 1: स्नान करें, साफ कपड़े पहनें (लाल/पीले/सफेद)

Diwali 2026 falls on October 20, 2026 (Kartik Amavasya). The Lakshmi Puja on Diwali night is the most important of the entire year — Maa Lakshmi visits every home on this night and resides where she finds light, cleanliness, and devotion.

3-day Diwali sequence:

Dhanteras (October 18): Begin the cycle. Light diyas at entrance. Chant the Kuber Mantra: 'Om Yakshaya Kuberaya Vaishravanaya Dhanadhanyaadhipataye Dhanadhaanya Samriddhim Me Dehi Dapaya Svaha.' Buy a small new item — even a coin — as a symbol of welcoming abundance.

Choti Diwali (October 19): Abhyanga Snan (oil bath) in the morning. Light 14 diyas in the evening.

Main Diwali (October 20): 1. Clean and decorate the entire home by afternoon 2. Draw lakshmi-pada (footprints) from entrance to puja room — inviting her in 3. At Pradosh Kaal (check local panchang for exact time): Begin the complete puja 4. Light at least 11 diyas — one in every room 5. Chant 'Om Shreem Mahalakshmiyei Namah' 108 times 6. What to avoid: Do not sweep after sunset (considered sweeping Lakshmi out). Do not let diyas go out during puja. Do not argue or speak harsh words in the home on Diwali.

Maa Lakshmi does not visit only on Fridays and Diwali — she can be invited every single day with simple, consistent acts of devotion:

Morning (5 minutes):

• Wipe the floor near the entrance before starting the day — physical cleanliness is Lakshmi's most fundamental requirement
• Light a small ghee lamp for Lakshmi ji
• Chant 'Om Shreem Mahalakshmiyei Namah' 11 times
• Offer a flower or a tulsi leaf

Evening (10 minutes):

• Light the diya at sunset — the evening diya is considered 'welcoming Lakshmi home for the night'
• Sing or listen to the Lakshmi Aarti (Vandnaa App)
• Offer a coin to the idol as a symbol of gratitude for the day's prosperity

Weekly (Fridays — 30 minutes):

• Complete Lakshmi puja with all samagri
• Fast until the puja if possible (many women do this)
• Chant 108 repetitions of the beej mantra

Monthly (Purnima — Full Moon):

• The full moon night is Sharad-like in its luminosity — ideal for Lakshmi puja
• Sharad Purnima (in October) is the one night in the year when Maa Lakshmi is said to descend to earth and bless those who stay awake and worship

The deeper practice: Lakshmi's actual residence is in Sattvic qualities — cleanliness, beauty, gratitude, generosity, and contentment. A home where people are grateful, do not waste food, keep clean, and give regularly in charity — Lakshmi resides there naturally, whether or not a formal puja is performed.

Many devotees unknowingly make mistakes during Lakshmi puja that reduce its efficacy:

1. Dirty home during puja: The single biggest mistake. Lakshmi will not enter a dirty home regardless of how elaborate the puja is. Clean before — not after.

2. Broken or chipped idols: A broken idol is considered inauspicious. If your Lakshmi idol has a chip or break, respectfully immerse it in flowing water and replace it.

3. Torn clothes during puja: Always wear clean, unsoiled clothes. Red, yellow, or pink are auspicious for Lakshmi worship. Avoid black.

4. Pointing feet toward the idol: Always sit with your feet pointing away from the deity — never toward the idol.

5. Tulsi not offered to Vishnu: Tulsi should not be offered to Lakshmi ji directly — it is Vishnu's offering. Offer it to Vishnu (or the Vishnu aspect of the Lakshmi-Narayan idol). Do not confuse this.

6. Extinguishing the diya mid-puja: If the diya goes out accidentally, relight it immediately. Never leave the puja without the diya burning.

7. Not distributing prasad: The puja cycle is not complete until the prasad has been distributed and consumed. An uncompleted prasad cycle leaves the ritual 'open.'

8. Arguing or negative speech: Any harsh words in the home during or immediately after the puja — especially regarding money — are considered directly offensive to Lakshmi. Keep the home harmonious.

9. Not chanting the correct mantras: The beej mantra for Lakshmi is 'Shreem' (श्रीं) — not 'Om Jai Lakshmi Mata' which is the aarti. Use the beej mantra for japa and the aarti for group singing.
