    Who Is Radha Rani

Radha Rani is the eternal beloved of Lord Krishna and the embodiment of prem (divine love) and bhakti. Born in Barsana near Vrindavan, she is revered not merely as Krishna's companion but as his very hladini shakti - the joy-giving energy through which he is loved and known. In the devotional tradition, Radha comes before Krishna himself, which is why devotees greet one another with 'Radhe Radhe'. Her love is the highest example of complete, selfless surrender to the divine.

    What the Radha Chalisa Contains

The Radha Chalisa is a forty-verse hymn that glorifies Radha Rani as Vrishabhanu-nandini (daughter of King Vrishabhanu), Kishori Ji and the queen of Krishna's heart. It describes her beauty, her divine love-play (raas leela) with Krishna, and her boundless compassion for devotees. The verses celebrate that to please Radha is to win Krishna himself, and that her grace softens the heart and fills it with devotion, sweetness and peace.

    Opening Doha and Sample Verses

Doha: Shri Radhe Vrishabhanu-suta, bhakt-hridaya-aadhaar. Charan-kamal vandan karuun, kar jodi baar-baar.

Chaupai (sample): Jai jai Radha Rani sukhdaani, Vrishabhanu-dulaari jag-jaani. Krishna-priya tum nitya-bihaarini, bhakt-jano ki sankat-haarini.

These verses bow at Radha's lotus feet, hail her as the joy-giving darling of Vrishabhanu and the beloved of Krishna, and pray to her as the remover of devotees' sorrows.

    Radha Mantra and Jap Vidhi

A simple and powerful Radha mantra is:

    Om Hreem Radhayai Namah

Many devotees also chant the sweet name 'Radhe Radhe' or the joined names 'Radha-Krishna'.

Jap Vidhi: 1. Bathe and wear clean clothes, ideally yellow; face east or north. 2. Place an image of Radha-Krishna, garland it and apply chandan. 3. Light a ghee lamp and offer flowers, tulsi, makhan-mishri or sweets. 4. Begin with the opening doha, then recite the forty verses with love. 5. Chant 'Om Hreem Radhayai Namah' or 'Radhe Radhe' 108 times on a tulsi mala. 6. Conclude with the Radha aarti and pray for love, devotion and harmony. Mondays, Ekadashi and Radha Ashtami are especially auspicious.

    Benefits of the Radha Chalisa

Reciting the Radha Chalisa is believed to deepen love and devotion, bring harmony and understanding in marriage and relationships, and fill the heart with sweetness, patience and peace. Because pleasing Radha pleases Krishna, her worship is said to draw his grace and remove obstacles in love and family life. Above all, it nurtures prem bhakti - the path of pure, selfless love for the divine.

    Radha Ashtami and Best Days

Radha Ashtami, the appearance day of Radha Rani in the month of Bhadrapada (about fifteen days after Janmashtami), is the most special day to recite the chalisa, fast and worship her in Barsana and beyond. Ekadashi and Mondays are also favoured. During the worship, devotees love to chant 'Radhe Radhe' and sing bhajans of the divine couple, for keeping her sweet name on the lips through the day is itself a constant prayer.
