Vastu for Office & Business: 9 Rules for Growth & Cash Flow
Rule 1-3: The Owner's Seat, Direction & Wall
The single most important Vastu element in any office is where the owner or senior-most decision-maker sits. Get this right and 80% of growth follows.
Rule 1: Owner sits in the south-west corner facing north or east. South-west (Nairutya) is the direction of stability, command and accumulated wealth. The owner's back is against the south or south-west wall (a 'mountain' of support), and the eyes look towards the open north or east (where opportunities and clients come from). NEVER let the owner sit with the back to the door - clients literally walk in 'behind' you and decisions feel unsupported.
Rule 2: Owner's chair must be solid-back, high, and heavier than employees' chairs. Vastu treats the chair as a symbolic throne. Low or revolving plastic chair = unstable authority. Use a high-back leather or wooden chair with a solid (not mesh) back. The chair must not creak. Replace immediately if it does - a creaking chair is read as 'shaky business' by the subconscious.
Rule 3: A solid wall behind the owner - never a window, never a glass partition. The wall represents the protection of ancestors, banks, mentors and luck. A glass wall or window behind the owner makes wealth 'leak' out and creates a feeling of constant exposure. If the office layout forces a window, hang a thick painting of a mountain (Himalaya, Mount Kailash) or place a wooden bookshelf in front. Mirror behind the owner is the worst Vastu - doubles the leakage.
Rule 4-5: Cash Counter, Locker & Safe
Rule 4: Cash counter and accounts table must face NORTH (Kuber's direction). When a salesperson or accountant counts money or receives payment, the open mouth of the cash drawer / Tally screen / payment device must face north. This aligns the money-flow with Kuber's blessing. South-facing cash counters slowly bleed cash through 'inexplicable' shortfalls, returns and discounts.
Within the cash counter / drawer:
- Keep a small Lakshmi-Ganesh idol or photo above or beside the cash box.
- Place one silver coin permanently inside the cash box - never spend it.
- A small piece of golden cloth lining the bottom of the drawer attracts wealth.
- Wipe the counter daily with a clean dry cloth before opening the shop - never wet (water dilutes Lakshmi).
Rule 5: Safe / locker MUST face north or east - never south, never west. The safe is the office's 'Kuber bhandar' (treasury). Place it against the south wall or south-west corner so that when it opens, the door opens to the north (i.e., you pull money OUT toward the north). The back of the safe touches the south-west wall - the 'mountain'.
Inside the safe:
- Currency notes face up (faces of leaders visible) - never face-down (insulting Lakshmi).
- Notes stored bundle-wise by denomination, not loose - Lakshmi enters organised spaces.
- A red cloth lines the bottom of the safe with kumkum and a small mirror at the back (the mirror multiplies the money's reflection symbolically).
- Never store unpaid bills, returned cheques or court papers inside the safe - they pollute the wealth space.
- Open the safe at least once daily (even briefly) - a sealed safe loses Lakshmi's circulation.
Rule 6-9: Door, Reception, Conference Room & Server
Rule 6: Main entrance - north, east, or NE only. The main door of the office is the mukh (mouth) through which opportunities enter. North-facing is best for service businesses (consulting, IT). East-facing is best for product businesses (retail, wholesale). NE corner door is best for new businesses needing rapid growth. South-facing doors require a heavy Vastu remedy - install a small Hanuman picture above and a brass swastika at threshold height. West-facing doors are mediocre - acceptable but not auspicious.
Main door rules:
- Door opens INWARD (welcomes opportunities IN) - not outward.
- No broken hinges, no creaking, no peeling paint - the office's first impression is the deity's first impression.
- Threshold (dehri) should be slightly raised - separating outside chaos from inside order.
- Place a brass nameplate at eye level and a small lamp that glows from sunset onward.
Rule 7: Reception in NW or N - receptionist faces east or north. Reception is the office's pituitary gland - first contact. The receptionist must face an open direction (never a wall). Behind the reception desk must be a solid wall with the company logo. Mirror behind reception desk is forbidden - clients feel they are being 'shown out'.
Rule 8: Conference room in NW (Vayu) - meetings here move quickly, decisions stick. NW is the direction of action and quick movement. Place the conference table so it is OVAL or RECTANGULAR (never round - round tables encourage endless discussion without conclusion). The senior-most person sits with back to the south or west wall, facing north/east.
Rule 9: Server room, computer hub and electrical panel in SE (Agni). SE is the fire direction - handles heat, electricity and energy. NEVER place servers in NE (Ishan) - Ishan is for water/peace, electrical equipment fries this energy. Avoid placing the server room directly above or below the owner's seat - server hum disturbs decision-making.
Bonus: Pantry / kitchen in SE corner only. A small office pantry should be in the SE - agni's natural domain. NEVER in NE (causes losses) or in centre (Brahmasthan must be empty). Coffee machine and microwave on the SE wall, not east or north.
Common Vastu Mistakes & Their Quick Fixes
Most struggling offices share the same five Vastu errors. Each has a fix that costs under Rs 2,000 and shows results within 30-60 days.
Mistake 1: Mirror facing main door. Wealth that enters the door instantly bounces back out. Fix: remove the mirror, OR cover it with a thick curtain during business hours, OR reposition it to a side wall.
Mistake 2: Toilet in north or NE. Drains the office's wealth and peace zone literally and energetically. Fix: keep toilet door always closed, install an exhaust fan that runs continuously, place a small bowl of sea salt in the toilet (change weekly), hang a small wooden flute above the toilet door.
Mistake 3: Beam directly above owner's chair. Beams compress chi/prana. Fix: relocate the chair so it is not under the beam, OR install a false ceiling, OR hang two small bamboo flutes at 45° angle below the beam.
Mistake 4: Clutter under desks and behind doors. Files stacked under desks, behind doors and on top of cabinets trap stagnant energy. Fix: monthly clutter purge - anything not used in 3 months goes to archive or recycle. Empty space under desks is itself a Vastu remedy.
Mistake 5: Plants in the wrong direction. Money plant (Pothos) - must be in SE corner, never in north. Bonsai - never in office (stunted growth = stunted business). Cactus or thorny plants - never (they create conflict). Best office plants by direction: tulsi in NE, money plant in SE, areca palm in any corner, bamboo plant in east.
Quick 7-day office Vastu cleanse: Day 1: Deep clean entire office. Day 2: Wipe every desk and cupboard with rock-salt water. Day 3: Burn camphor in every room. Day 4: Place a small brass kalash with water + 11 rupee coins + tulsi leaves in SE. Day 5: Light a Lakshmi-Ganesh diya at the cash counter, keep lit for 1 hour daily for 21 days. Day 6: Owner does 11 mala (11 × 108 = 1188) of 'Om Shreem Hreem Shreem Mahalakshmyai Namah'. Day 7: Sweet distribution to all staff. Effects begin in 30 days.
Frequently Asked Questions
My office is rented and I can't change the layout - what helps most?+
Focus on the three things you CAN control: (1) Your own desk direction - turn the desk if needed so you face north or east. (2) Cash drawer position - even in a fixed counter, the drawer's opening direction can be adjusted. (3) The 7-day Vastu cleanse described above - no permanent change needed, works in rented spaces. Add a small Lakshmi-Ganesh photo at eye level on the north wall and a money plant in the SE corner. These three corrections alone deliver 60-70% of the full Vastu benefit.
Should the owner sit alone or share the room with team for visibility?+
Vastu strongly prefers a separate cabin for the owner with a glass partition that allows visibility but not direct energy mixing. Open seating with the team drains decision-making energy - every staff member's worries and chatter touch the owner's aura. If a separate cabin is impossible, sit at the south-west end of the open office with a small low partition (file cabinet, plant) marking your zone. Solo-cabin owners are statistically more decisive and their businesses grow faster, per multiple Vastu consultants' field reports.
Aquarium in the office - yes or no?+
Yes - but only in the NORTH or NE, with EXACTLY 9 fish (8 gold + 1 black). The black fish absorbs negativity; if it dies, that means it has absorbed bad energy on your behalf - replace it without grief. Aquarium in any other direction is harmful: in south causes heated arguments, in west blocks decisions, in SE creates electrical and financial fires (literal and metaphorical). The aquarium must be clean, well-aerated, and the water changed weekly. A dirty aquarium is worse than no aquarium - it concentrates stagnant negativity.
How long after applying Vastu corrections should results show?+
Subtle changes (better mood among staff, fewer petty fights, faster decisions) appear in 7-15 days. Operational changes (cash flow improvement, new client enquiries, payments releasing) appear in 30-60 days. Major changes (new contracts, scaling, profit jump) appear in 90-180 days. If after 6 months there is zero visible change, the diagnosis was wrong - consult a different Vastu expert OR check for non-Vastu issues (Saturn sade-sati on the owner, pitru dosha in the family, fundamentally broken business model). Vastu amplifies what you do; it does not create what you do not.
