What Is an Ishta Devta?
Ishta devta means 'chosen deity' - the form of the Divine your heart turns to naturally. All deities are one Supreme Reality, but just as a river reaches the sea fastest by its own channel, devotion flows fastest toward the form you love most.
There are three traditional ways to identify your ishta devta:

Each of the 27 nakshatras has a presiding deity - for example Ashwini belongs to the Ashwini Kumars, Rohini to Brahma, Mrigashira to Chandra, Pushya to Brihaspati, Hasta to Savita, and Revati to Pushan. Weekly worship: on their weekday, offer a simple puja - diya, flower, and their favourite offering. 4. Listen to their katha: read or hear their stories regularly; love grows through knowing. 5. Their festival: observe their main festival (Shivratri, Janmashtami, Navratri, etc.) with special care.
