Before Vali ever meets Rama's arrow, Tara is given one of the more striking speaking roles for a woman in the Kishkindha Kanda. When Sugriva issues his second challenge to Vali, having already been badly beaten once, Tara counsels her husband against going out to fight again. She has heard, through her own sources, that Sugriva has allied himself with a powerful exiled prince, and she reasons, correctly, that no one would issue a second challenge after a first defeat without a serious change in circumstance.
Vali dismisses her caution, partly out of confidence in his own strength, which is considerable, having once dragged the demon Dundubhi's corpse for a great distance to prove a point, and partly out of the belief that no righteous king would ambush him unfairly in what is meant to be a fair fight between brothers. He goes out to face Sugriva a second time, and Rama, hidden and following through on his alliance with Sugriva, shoots Vali from concealment.
Tara's warning, ignored, becomes one of the episode's quieter tragedies: the one person who correctly read the situation was not believed by the person whose life depended on it.

Mortally wounded, Vali does not spend his final exchange only in anger at Rama, though he does confront him about the fairness of an attack from hiding, a challenge Rama answers with his own explanation of dharma and Vali's earlier misdeeds. Vali also turns to practical matters concerning those he is leaving behind, and in this final conversation he specifically instructs Sugriva to take Tara as his wife and to care for Angada, Vali's son, as his own.
This is not framed in the text as generosity toward a brother he has just lost a kingdom and life to. It is framed as political and personal realism: Tara is wise, capable, and already familiar with the affairs of Kishkindha, and Vali, dying, wants the kingdom's governance to continue in steady hands rather than dissolve into further instability, with Angada's succession eventually protected by the arrangement.
Sugriva, once crowned king of Kishkindha with Rama and Lakshmana's support, does marry Tara, following his brother's own instruction, and the marriage is treated in the text less as romance and more as a stabilising act consistent with vanara custom, in which a brother inheriting a kingdom was also expected to take on responsibility for his predecessor's household.
