Puri Dham and Lord Jagannath

When the king grew impatient and looked in before the work was finished, the images were left in their present unfinished, distinctive form.
The Char Dham, including Puri, are traditionally associated with the great teacher Adi Shankaracharya, who is remembered for establishing one of his four mathas here.
