Who Is Sita Mata
Sita Mata, also called Janaki (daughter of King Janak) and Vaidehi, is the consort of Lord Ram and is revered as an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. Found by King Janak in a furrow of the earth, she is the embodiment of purity, patience, devotion and quiet inner strength. Through her unwavering loyalty during exile and trials, Sita became the highest ideal of pativrata dharma and feminine grace in Hindu tradition, loved and worshipped together with Ram as Sita-Ram.
Significance of Worshipping Sita Mata
Sita Mata is worshipped as the giver of a happy married life, devotion, patience and inner courage. Women especially pray to her for a loving husband, marital harmony and the strength to face hardship with grace, while all devotees seek her blessing for purity of heart and steady faith. As Lakshmi's incarnation, she also blesses the home with prosperity and contentment. Worshipping Sita with Ram is believed to bless a couple with mutual love and lifelong companionship.
Sita Mata Aarti
Light a ghee lamp before Sita Mata, ideally with Ram, and sing:
Aarti shri Janaki maata ki, dharma-dhuja Raghuvar pyari ki. Janak-dulari sukh ki daata, sab vidhi shubh mangal-daata. Pati-vrata dharm ki murti, karuna-mayi sab dukh harti. Sharan padi jo teri maiya, bhav-sagar se ho paar nadiya.
Circle the flame clockwise, then bow and pray for a happy home and steadfast devotion.
Sita Mata Mantra
Sita is most often worshipped together with Ram, so her mantras join their names:
Om Janakyai Vidmahe, Bhumijayai Dhimahi, Tanno Sita Prachodayat
Simpler daily chants are:
Sita-Ram Sita-Ram
Om Sri Sitayai Namah
Chanting 'Sita-Ram' on a tulsi mala is a beloved practice that joins the devotee to the divine couple and is believed to bring peace, love and harmony to the home.
Sita Mata Puja Vidhi
