    Who Is Panchmukhi Hanuman

Panchmukhi Hanuman is the majestic five-faced (panch-mukhi) form that Lord Hanuman is said to have taken during the war in the Ramayana to defeat the demon Ahiravana, who had hidden five lamps in five directions. To extinguish all five at once and rescue Lord Ram and Lakshman, Hanuman manifested five faces, each facing a different direction. This form represents Hanuman as the complete and all-powerful guardian who protects his devotees from every side.

The Five Faces and Their Meaning

Each face is a divine power facing a direction: 1. Hanuman (east) - the central monkey face that removes sin and grants devotion. 2. Narasimha (south) - the lion face that destroys fear, evil and negative forces. 3. Garuda (west) - the eagle face that removes poison, black magic and disease. 4. Varaha (north) - the boar face that grants wealth, prosperity and lifts one from troubles. 5. Hayagriva (upward) - the horse face that grants knowledge, wisdom and good progeny. Together they cover all directions, making this form a complete shield.

    Significance of This Form

Panchmukhi Hanuman is worshipped above all for total protection. Because the five faces guard all directions and combine the powers of major Vishnu avatars, this form is believed to shield the home and devotee from enemies, accidents, black magic, fear and negative energy. It is especially invoked for those facing repeated obstacles, hidden enemies or unexplained troubles, and is a favourite of sadhaks seeking strength and fearlessness.

    Panchmukhi Hanuman Mantra

    The core protective mantra is:

Om Namo Bhagavate Panchavadanaya Pancha-mukha Hanumate Namah

    A simpler daily mantra is:

    Om Han Hanumate Namah

Many devotees also recite the Hanuman Chalisa before the Panchmukhi form. Chant the mantra 108 times on a red or tulsi mala, ideally on a Tuesday or Saturday, holding firmly in mind the wish for protection and courage.

    Puja Vidhi for Panchmukhi Hanuman

    1. On Tuesday or Saturday, bathe and wear clean red or saffron clothes. 2. Place a Panchmukhi Hanuman idol or picture facing your worship spot; light a mustard or sesame oil lamp. 3. Offer sindoor, red flowers, boondi or laddu and a betel leaf. 4. Recite the Hanuman Chalisa, then chant the Panchmukhi mantra 108 times. 5. Perform the Hanuman aarti and circle the lamp clockwise. 6. Pray for protection of your family and offer the bhog as prasad. Keeping a Panchmukhi Hanuman image at the main entrance is believed to guard the whole home.

    Benefits of Worshipping Panchmukhi Hanuman

Sincere worship is believed to grant all-round protection from enemies, accidents and negative energy, freedom from fear and anxiety, relief from black magic and the evil eye, and the strength to overcome hidden obstacles. Devotees also seek wisdom, prosperity and good health, since the five faces carry the combined blessings of Hanuman, Narasimha, Garuda, Varaha and Hayagriva.

    Things to Keep in Mind

Worship Panchmukhi Hanuman with cleanliness, celibacy of thought and a pure heart, never to harm anyone. Tuesdays and Saturdays are his special days, and reciting the Hanuman Chalisa daily strengthens the practice. Many keep a small Panchmukhi image or yantra at the entrance or in the vehicle for protection while travelling.
