    What Is Sita Navami

Sita Navami, also known as Janaki Navami, celebrates the appearance day of Mata Sita, the divine consort of Lord Rama and an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. According to the Ramayana, Sita appeared from the earth when King Janaka was ploughing a field, which is why she is called Janaki and Bhumija (daughter of the earth). Married women especially observe this day for the well-being of their husbands and families.

Tithi and Date of Sita Navami 2027

Sita Navami is observed on the Navami (ninth day) of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Vaishakha, about a fortnight after Rama Navami, which falls in Chaitra. In the Gregorian calendar it usually comes in April or May. Because the tithi changes each year and the puja muhurat depends on your location, please confirm the exact date and shubh muhurat for Sita Navami 2027 on the Vandnaa Panchang.

    Significance of Mata Sita

Mata Sita is revered as the ideal of devotion, patience, purity and inner strength. Through every trial - exile, abduction and separation - she remained steadfast in dharma and unwavering in her love for Rama. As an incarnation of Lakshmi, she also represents prosperity, fertility and the nurturing power of the earth. Worshipping Sita is believed to bless devotees, especially married women, with harmony, virtue and a happy, prosperous home.

    Sita Navami Puja Vidhi

Worship Sita along with Lord Rama, ideally around midday: 1. Rise early, bathe and wear clean, fresh clothes. 2. Clean the altar and place an image or idol of Sita-Rama. 3. Bathe the deities with panchamrit and water, then dress and adorn them. 4. Offer chandan, kumkum, flowers (especially red and yellow), fruits and sweets. 5. Light a ghee lamp and incense, and offer bhog of kheer or seasonal fruits. 6. Recite the Sita Mata aarti, sing bhajans and chant the Sita-Rama mantra. Many devotees, especially married women, keep a fast and break it after the puja.

    Fasting Rules for Sita Navami

The Sita Navami vrat may be observed as a nirjala fast or a phalahari fast with fruits, milk and water, according to capacity. Devotees avoid grains, common salt, onion and garlic, and spend the day in prayer, bhajan and reading from the Ramayana. The fast is broken after the midday puja. Married women often observe it praying for their husband's long life and family harmony, much in the spirit of Sita's devotion.

    Mantras and Benefits

Chant these mantras with devotion on Sita Navami:

    Om Sitayai Namah
